Yasmin/Still having period

I've been taking Yasmin for about 3 months now. I took it for 2 mths w/ out stopping and noticed I would bleed sometimes during or after sex. I went off of it for a few days, bled, then took it again. I also noticed that sometimes when I had sex, I would start bleeding (but not everytime). I then took it again for 3 wks, and stopped on the 4th week. I also got the fever and took antibiotics around the 4th day of sugar pills and took the antibiotics for about 2 days. I waited I think one or two days then started my bc pills again on a Monday. On Friday I had sex, but was okay. Sat. I bled during sex. Sunday I did not bleed, but then started to bleed heavily about 3 hrs. after sex. It's now Tuesday and I am still bleeding as if I have a normal period, yet I am still taking bc pills!! What is going on??? Is this a bad sign and does it signify I am pregnant?? Sorry for the long message, but I really hope someone can help.

Hi and welcome!

If I were you I'd tell my doc what's going on. It may be that Yasmin isn't quite the right mix of hormones for you. If you were not consistent in taking your pill on time that might explain some of the spotting. Had you changed anything in your diet or supplements you are taking, going low-carb or taking 1000 mg or more of vitamin C, about the time you began bleeding heavily? Both of those can trigger irregular bleeding. Any time you are taking antibiotics you should be using back-up during the time you are taking your med. and for at least a week after you finish your last dose.

Good luck

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm having a tough time figuring out what schedule you're on!

Thank you for the replies. I always stop taking the pills when the 21 days are up. But, instead of waiting 7 days, I would waited 4 days the second time around. Then I started a new pack again for 21 days. I got my period, and then took the pill again around the 5th day of inactive pills. Finally, I took the pills for 21 days and then used inactive pills for 7 days. But, I took an antibiotic on the 4th and 5th day of inactive pills. That was 2 days of antibiotics, then I started a new pack 2 days after antibiotics. I did not use backup after antibiotics, but I did not have sex until the 5th day of taking the bc pills. I immediately started bleeding the next day. How could bleeding be a sign of pregnancy when it would be the next day?

As an update, I've still been bleeding (plus taking bc pills) and it's been 6 days now!!! Does this mean I am pregnant or that I've miscarried? I'm really scared now and not sure what is going on! I've never missed a day of taking bc pills, but I've been off by 1-2 hrs!

I'd still call your doctor for a professional opinion.

Noticed you are taking Yasmin. I've been on Yasmin for about 2-3 yrs and noticed that when you have your periods, you really have periods, I mean heavy bleeding. Also, lately I have been getting major migranes when I get to the last 3 pills of the cycle, so bad that I skip them and go right into taking another pack because the headaches are so bad. Not sure what is going on, possibly hormone/estrogen imbalance.

On that note, does anyone know anything about the new pill that you can take for four months before having a period? I have heard there is such a thing, but I don't know the name. Does anyone out there know the name and have any luck with this?

Hi kishalo,

You are thinking of Seasonale which is an 84/7 regimen pack. The 21/7 regimen pill Nordette has the same formulation of estrogen and progestin as Seasonale. See the Seasonale site at http://www.seasonale.com/ and an article about extended OC regimens http://www.contraceptiononline.org/contrareport/article01.cfm?art=239 There are a few members who are Seasonale users. You can search for their posts by typing Seasonale in the search box at the top of the screen.

Good luck
