How do you remember your pill??

Hi everyone!

A woman's question over on another board got me thinking about our compliance with the pill...like that OrthoEvra commercial says, "It's not hard to remember - it's just so easy to forget!"

So it got me thinking about how we remember - especially in the early days of taking it.

WOW! I find those statistics frightening! I admit, I always thought people who got pregnant on the pill were being irresponsible (and many are, I have a neice because of a vomiting incident) - then I got pregnant myself with perfect use & had to realize that it *can* happen. I just can't imagine having pills left at the end of the month! I remember one of my pill inserts suggesting that if you forgot pills frequently, maybe you should consider other methods of birth control.

When I was taking the pill (husband now has a vasectomy) I associated taking my pill with taking out my contacts & brushing my teeth before going to bed. Over time, it was so important to us not to conceive that the habit was not difficult to keep. My husband also often checked with me as we were getting into bed whether I'd remembered my pill or not. In just under 10 years, I think I forgot pills maybe three times total.... sometimes an obsessive personality comes in handy.

Yup, those are all good suggestions. :) Aside from being a bit over worried if I had taken my pill, I set up an alarm on my new gadget, ipod. I take bc at night, at 11pm, to help me with any symptoms and easy to remember rather than morning where as I like to sleep in when I can. In my 7th pack, I've only forgot the pill once, and taken it few hours later. It's very important to have reminders like clocks in the beginning.

I'm a special case: I have to take psychiatric medicine twice daily or I go crazy...literally. I took that medicine for about 10 years before starting the Pill, so it was not hard for me at all to get into the habit of taking it. I simply take it along with my morning psych med dose.

When I was on the pill--I now have an IUD---I either took it at bedtime....or first thing in the morning (with morning juice/breakfast)....

When i was on the pill (nuva ring now), i would set up my cell phone and it had its own beep. My cell phone was my only phone, so I have it with me anywhere i go. Too bad that I don't have my pills with me. i didn't bring my pills with me wherever I went (because one time my mom saw them in my bag and she wasn't very happy about that). So i'd remember to take my pills with my phone, but owuldn't have a pill to take.

I never miss a day of Dr. Phil. I take my pill when Dr. Phil comes on at 3 in the afternoon. I set my TV to turn on or to change to that channel at 3 everyday. When I hear the intro music it sounds like "hurry up music" so it makes me take it faster LoL. If I'm out of the house I know I will be missing Dr. Phil so I take my pills with me LoL.

I keep my watch set to the time that I have to take them. Only once have I been late taking one because I had taken a shower when I got home from class and had forgotten to put my watch back on...but it was only about 45 minutes late. Also I take my pill at 10pm which is usually about the time my boyfriend leaves for work, so he always is sure to ask me if I have taken it before he walks out the door:)

I take mine every morning with my vitamin and breakfast. The weekends sometimes present a problem, but on those days, I set my alarm and have them ready with something to drink so I can go back to sleep.
