Depo Provera v. Seasonale

After years of bleeding 3 weeks out of 4 and trying all different kinds of birth control pills and more hormones on top of them, I finally went on the depo provera shot. I have now been on the shot for a little over 2 1/2 years. It works wonderful. I spot only a couple of days a month - if that. The problem is that now I have started gaining a lot of weight. 12 pounds in the last 3 months. They seem to think it is the shot and that my body needs a break from it. They are telling me that in June we will try a pill called "Seasonale" you take it for 3 months and then you have a period. It sounds ok to me except that I bled on every other pill I've tried and I do not want to go back to bleeding like that again. They said I could just have my uterus taken out if these pills don't work and keep my ovaries - like that is no big deal. Anyway ... has anyone else had this problem and/or tried Seasonale. I know it is new on the market. The little bit of research I have done says they are not as strong as 28 day pills and that spotting is likely with these pills -- I'm not sure they will even help me. *pout* I just don't know what to do. Any ideas from anyone?

Hi Robin, welcome!

Seasonale is the same formulation as the 21/7 regimen pill Nordette. Irregular bleeding is a common side effect of Seasonale for the first few packs. You could try Nordette first and see how you do on that. Let us know what you decide and how you're doing, ok?

Good luck
