IUD before having kids

I'm 21 and really like the idea of an iud but I have never been pregnant and am wondering about the problems that this may present. The one article on here suggests that it is to bypass lawsuits on the subject of infertility. The one I was thinking about in particular is Mirena which is supposed to be good for 5 years but all of the articles here suggest that iuds are only good for 1 or 10 years. If anyone can help clear up some of my questions I'd really appreciate it, Thanks!

There is a somewhat higher incidence of IUDs being expelled by women who haven’t had children. There is also reluctance among some doctors to insert an IUD for a woman who hasn’t had children. The ParaGard (Copper-T) IUD http://www.paragardiud.com/ is good for 8-10 years while the Mirena http://www.mirena-us.com/ is good for 5 years. Let us know what you decide, ok?
Good luck
Jill
I, myself, have an IUD and have never had children. I'm 20 years old and my doctor had no problem with inserting an IUD for me. I have the Nova-T IUD which is a copper IUD, good for 36 months. It is made by the same company that makes Triquillar (I think) BCPs. So far, my experience has been great. My periods are actually *lighter and shorter* than what they were on the pill. Cramping is a little worse, but my prescription takes care of that.
As long as you are aware of all the risks / benifits of getting an IUD, the only problem you may have with this method is finding a dr who is willing to insert it for you. Good Luck!
