Internal medicine doctor for pill?

I am very frustrated with my gyn lately. I can't take anti-inflammatories with the medicine I'm on so my cramps are going to be unbearable, I've been spotting all month, and I already told you what he said about all pills being the same... But I'm a student and don't want to bother finding a new doctor in my last semester. So will I sound silly asking if my internal medicine doctor provides gynecological care? I have no idea if she does. Her office is set up very much like a primary care physician type place. I just know I could get an appt this week and make my life simpler. But I don't want to sound stupid :)
And I really think I need to suck it up and get a full exam (the doctor I have now just does ultrasounds). Any encouragement?? :) I'm so scared it will hurt really bad. Especially the pap smear part.
Thanks!

I totally understand your wanting to be treated by a doctor who will listen to your concerns. If you have confidence in her it doesn’t sound silly to me, to ask your IM MD if she does pelvics. If she doesn’t, you could ask who her GYN is and ask if she will refer you so you can get an appointment quickly. Hopefully she’s not a patient of the Gyn you are going to now. A pelvic is never a fun thing, but it doesn’t have to be bad either. Don’t be focusing on it so much. It is over quickly and not usually painful. I’d be for putting in a call to your IM doc! Post and tell us how you are doing, ok?
Good luck
Jill
"Regular" doctors can do general gyne care like pap smears and birth control pills, they just aren't equipped for the complicated stuff (hormone imbalances, prenatal care, etc.).
