Things have been going really well with DH and I. New house, I'm getting a promotion at work and DH is going back for his master's. So, now we're having the kid talk. My midwife wants to run an entire battery of tests when I see her in August. Just to make sure there won't be any problems. What should I expect? I know I'll probably have blood drawn, but what else? Also, my dad was just diagnosed with Diabetes. I'm going to tell the midwife, what more should I expect from that diagnosis? Note: Diabetes runs in my family, but I don't have it.
Any info will be appreciated and yes, DH will be coming with me. (I always pass out when I have blood drawn.)

PS Anything I can prepare him for?

I didnt have a work up until I was actually pregnant, but what your midwife suggests isnt a bad idea! Along with blood work, you will most likely have a pelvic exam. She will do a PAP smear and probably check for any kind of infection(just routine). You will also fill out a questionaire about your health and the health of your immediate family. Thats when you can let your midwife know about your Dad's diabetes. That may "statistically" increase your chance for gestational diabetes(that is diabetes that is prevalent only during pregnancy); but even if it would occur, it is controlable. She will probably want you to start taking a prenatal vitamin even before you conceive. In fact, it wouldnt be a bad idea to start it now! They sell non-prescription ones at just about every pharmacy and Walmart. In fact, those or the vitamins I take now and I havent been pregnant for 7 years and do not plan to be again! Good luck!
