UTI and other question
| Wed, 03-24-2004 - 6:50am |
I had sex for the first time last week. I was also on the nuvaring. About 2 days after we did it the first time, I had painful urination and abdominal pain. I just read up on it and I guess it's common for this to happen the first time after sex? Anyways, I haven't been to the doctor because I don't really have the pain any more, just very slight. Are there any home or herbal remedies that can kick this out of my system? I know about the cranberry juice capsules. I'm going to buy those today. Anything else?
Also, I had only been on the nuvaring 1 month. I took it out last Wednesday, at around the same time I put it in 3 weeks prior. I only took it out for sex and then put it right back in. I got my period 2 days after I took out the ring. So obviously I'm not pregnant if I got my period? I had sex 2 days before the period came. Too soon to tell or not? Sorry if that's a stupid question.
Thanks for any help.

Are you sure it was a UTI? If you aren’t well lubricated there can be some discomfort afterward that will usually go away in several days. The best things I’ve found to minimize the possibility of getting a UTI is to urinate before and especially after IC. Urination afterward flushes out any bacteria that might have gotten into your urethra during IC. Also, drinking unsweetened cranberry juice, or taking cranberry capsules, has really helped me avoid UTIs.
UTIs are something you don’t want to have lingering around. If you have any remaining symptoms you might want to have your doc run some tests to make sure it is a UTI and give you something to knock it out. I’d stay away from the herbals if I were you as some can have unintended consequences. If AF came then you should be just fine.
Good luck

UTI's typically don't go away by themselves, and if left untreated the bacteria can migrate up your ureters from your bladder to your kidneys and kidney infections require intravenous antibiotics and a hospital stay--not something to mess with.
