Could it be from the depo shot?!

Hello! Recently I posted about side effects I had been having from the Depo shot. One of them was a fishy odor and it was recommended that I get tested for a bacterial infection. My doctor tested for that and for chlamydia/gonorrhea. The bacterial test was negative. That leaves me really scared. I don't know if it is a side effect of the shot, from bleeding for a month, or if my new b/f (who is the first person I have been with since my husband of 7 years) gave me a VD. The worst part is, if it is the latter of the three, I had an affair on my husband with my current b/f and he on his wife with me. We are together now, but that would mean we gave it to our exes and whomever they've been with since then. I've concluded there are 8 people involved here that have possibly been infected....that I know of. Should I tell my husband? I know I have to but I don't want him to find out about the affair....we are going through a dirty custody battle! Is it possible that it is from something other than a VD? Has anyone else experienced this on the depo shot?

Hi karenca,

I’m confused. Did you ask your doc about the fishy odor? If you didn’t you should. It might not be a bad idea to be tested for the whole range of STIs, if your doc didn’t do that already, not just Chlamydia /gonorrhea. I agree, if you test positive for something then you need to tell your partners. But, if your tests are negative there is nothing to tell is there? What I would do is, with the help of your doc, sort out what (if anything) is physically wrong with you and take it from there. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck

So the chlamydia and gc were negative...so that's good.

I guess I wasn't very clear with my post. I went to the doctor because of the fishy odor. She tested me for three things. One was a bacterial infection, one was chlamydia, and one was gonorrhea. She thought that one of those three things would be what was causing the odor. The bacterial infection came back negative but I have not gotten the results for the other two. I am worried that since she thought it was one of the three and it wasn't the bacteria that it could be one of the other two (C or G). I was just hoping that maybe the odor was a side effect of the shot and that I didn't have any STD's at all. I have been waiting for the results for three days! I wish that they would hurry up. I told my b/f about it last night and he totally freaked out. He wasn't mad at me because it obviously came from him, but he was scared. I will let you guys know what happens.

well, i never had the depo shot, but think about it-its making your hormones go all nuts-the smell could very well be from the depo. this may be tmi, but every so often, i have a particularly stinky period. its just my bodys hormones being different that month and that causing the odor. hopefully youll get the test results back and the doctor finds nothing wrong. i wouldnt tell your ex husband unless you have to-if the doctor finds something, then tell him-otherwise, keep in under your hat...
