So far I have gained 10 lbs w/th patch and there is no limit to my appetite. I never feel full. This worries me. I gained 40 lbs in 3 months on triphasil. Ughg. I didn't gain anything on depo for six months!!!!! What is wrong with me? What has your experience been like w/hormones?

i heard something on the news a year or so ago that the birth control itself does not cause weight gain. what causes weight gain are not watching what youre eating and not enough excercise. i have to think i agree with this because i was on the pill for 2 years and the first year, i gained 25 pounds...then the next year,i lost over 35 pounds-i was more active and eating better when i lost the weight. just try to watch what you eat-stick to healthy things like fruits, veggies, yogurt, healthy cereals-stuff like that-and see if that has any effect on your weight. (ftr-the kind of pill i took was alesse 28. dont know if that has any difference from the other pills or the patch or anything, but just thought id let you know)

Pills with a low progestin activity(like OTC) I gained weight on and felt hungry. Those with a high progestin activity(like Loestrin) I did not and wasnt hungry. I have heard that hormones effect your metabolism....

I gained about 10 pounds on OTC, now on Yasmin and have lost it, I think it was water weight mostly. But I am hungrier on Yasmin, so I have to be careful of that. Still watching what you eat and exercise is key.

people consistently, especially promoters of the pill, will say it doesn't promote weight gain but I am 29 years old and have weighed 15 lbs less than what I weighed in high school for the past six years and I haven't been on the pill since I was 17 until almost 4 weeks ago when I was put on the patch. I definitly do not believe that weight gain is not a side effect of the pill for some women. In my personal experience I have gained weight w/the pill and lost it when coming off with out excercise or diet. I am one of the few women my age who can say they weigh less now then they did when they were 16. And I don't diet or excercise. I have managed to gain 10 lbs in 3 weeks on the patch and I don't think suddenly after all these years its because of my lifestyle.

that is interesting ilvcook...my best friend was on loestrin as well and she said she had absolutely no side effects. Maybe I should look into that one. Ortho tricyclin made me extremely moody and my appetite went through the roof. I cried all month over stupid stuff and I am not an emotional person. That pill lasted a month and my husband and I decided it was either get rid of the pill or get a divorce. It wasn't a difficult decision that is for sure.

I had the exact opposite happen with those brands of pills! I didn't gain any weight on OTC...yet I've been on Loestrin for 6 months now and have gained about 15lbs.

Effects women differently I guess

With otc, i had the weight gain, but my mood was pretty stable. With loestrin, no weight gain but I was anxious and had rapid heart rate(though not proven to be due to that pill, but after I stopped it returned to normal). You may do just fine. everybody is different. Let us know how things go.

Very interesting. I always stayed clear of loestrin because of the high progesterone activity in it compared to Mircette now I am reconsidering it. I am waiting for my Mircette to arrive in the mail and will try that to see if it changes my appetite but I am concerned about moodiness on it as I've read a lot of women having problems with that on Mircette.

I didn't gain any weight on depo for the first year or so. I've been on it for about 4 years though now and suddenly the side effects are occuring(I'm breaking out and such). Within the past year I have gone from a size 3 to a size 12, hm I rather not say the actual amount! :) I am just trying to get off of it now so hopefully I will be able to lose the weight.
