I was on Yasmin for 2 months and then decided to stop because I had problems with side effects. (it started off alright, but then I gained weight, was super anxious and felt tired much more than before)-- so I didn't take it the begg. of the 3rd month. While on the pill, I had both periods on time (Wednesday of sugar pills), but both were light and short. I had sex (my boyfriend came inside) 1 week after starting the pill (which I later realized was not a good idea as I should have waited a month).
Now, I am supposed to have gotten my period on Tuesday (it's Friday)-- and it is still not here, but I have experienced some cramping and around ovulation time (14-15 days), there were VERY small spots (like 2). I'm worried that I could be pregnant. My boyfriend and I are using condoms and spermicide now, but on the pill (and the Sunday that I would have started the third month), we used nothing. This was my first time ever being on the pill-- would 2 months cause my body to adjust to the hormones? I'm wondering if something happened while on the pill. (which I took faithfully on time, missed one but then took two in one day). My cycles before the pill were irregular (like 30-55 days) because I had ovarian cysts and fluid leaking into my uterus, but my gyno said that is gone now, since being on the pill.
Do I have reason to be so worried? I know every woman's body is different-- but all I do is try to figure out the signs and then I think I feel them (morning sickness or "metal mouth"?) Does anyone else constantly worry about pregnancy if they aren't ready? I've been reading about women who have gotten pregnant on the pill and I just don't know.
How long should I wait before getting a test? Was 2 months on the pill enough time to cause my body to "delay" it's natural cycle?
Thanks for your replies,
Christina

It wasn’t a great idea to go w/o protection just after stopping Yasmin but since it was very early in your cycle you are probably ok. Usually any side effects from BCPs begin to disappear by the end of the 2nd pack of a new pill but it sometimes takes 3 or 4 cycles so you may not have given your body a good chance to adjust to the hormones in Yasmin. If you were irregular before BCPs then you might go back to the same irregularity, even without the cysts. You will just have to wait and see. And, it’s also not unknown to miss a period when coming of hormonal contraceptives. I don’t think you can count on 28 day cycles but if you are already ‘late’ based on your BCPs 28 day cycle you could test now just for peace of mind.
You might want to try another pill. There are a great many out there because we are all different and need different combinations of hormones, not for effectiveness, but to be comfortable (no prolonged side effects) while on them. One very low dose low maintenance method is NuvaRing that has worked very well for a lot of members here. It’s a small (approx. 2 in.) polymer ring worn in the vagina for three weeks and removed for one, for your period. Try not to worry (not easy I know) while waiting for AF to arrive, she will come in her own time. I’ll bet she will be showing up in a few days. Post and let us know how you’re doing, ok?
Good luck
