Is there something wrong??

Ok, i'm on my fourth month of ortho-tricyclen and now my period's starting to get messed up. Last month, my period lasted longer than normal and was really heavy (which may have been because I was sick). But this month, it came a week late - and it was really light for the first few days and now it's finally starting to seem like a regular period...but i've had it for more than a week now...I'm really worried, because it's so messed up and I have no idea why. I'm also worried because I don't know when to expect my next period now (which according to the pills is supposed to be in a couple weeks already). Can anyone tell me why this is happening or when I should expect my next period? Also, does this mean that the birth control might not be as effective in preventing pregnancy?

By the 4th cycle you should be getting over any side effects of a new pill. If you are having irregular bleeding then perhaps OTC isn’t the pill for you. Have you been doing anything that could cause a change in you hormones, such as going on a low carb. diet and loosing weight, or are you taking large (more that 1,000mg) amounts of vitamin C? That sort of thing sometimes triggers irregular bleeding. If not, I think I’d talk to my doc about a pill change. Ovulation suppression and endometrium control are two different functions of the pill so if you have been taking your pills correctly then you should still be protected.

Anyways, I went to the doctor today & thankfully I have nothing to worry about!!! She said that since I was really sick the last time I had my period, that probably threw off my cycle. She also said that I just have to wait and see what happens in the next few months - if my cycle doesn't become regular again, I might have to switch to a different kind of pill. Otherwise, I don't really have to worry. I'm so relieved!! Thanks again! :)
