someone please help..

i posted an entry earlier along the board. i made the switch from ortho tricyclen lo to ovcon 35, and im having a horrible time with it. its so bad im seriously starting to think about quitting the pill midcycle. im on my 10th pill, and ive been having severe bouts of nausea in the morning and horrible stomach pains. i take my pill at 8:00 at night. i didnt have any of these problems on OTC! basically, im scared im pregnant. i take my pill perfectly and i took all my OTC perfectly, with the farthest ive been off on taking it being a minutes difference and never skipping a day. i had my last period and it lasted the full amount of time of 7 days. could it be that my body is just reacting oddly to the higher amount of estrogen and a different and smaller dosage of progestine? i just really need some advice. if it makes a difference, im also severely anemic and i take iron, which ive been told causes some nausea. i also have gastric reflux, which i take zantac for. someone, please help me.

Hi sweetlilmegxo,

I’m sorry you are having such a bad time. Ovcon-35 and OTC have the same amounts of estrogen (35mcg) but different types and amounts of progestin. It may be the progestin that your body is having a rough time getting used to. If you have been taking your pills correctly and had a recent period then there is little chance that you could be pg. Have you tried taking some food, a few crackers, with your pill at night? If you can, I’d try and stick it out and see if things get any better. It usually takes 3 cycles or so for the body to get used to the hormones in a different pill. If you can’t, then bail and ask for a pill change. In any case I think i'd talk to my doc and let him or her know what's going on. I hope you’re feeling better soon!

Good luck

thank you for your response!

i woke up this morning feeling a lot better. i ate dinner about 20 minutes before i took my pill, then took my pill with milk and took a zantac after that. i woke up this morning feeling perfectly fine, just a little gassy, but my iron pills have made me pretty constipated (sorry for the overshare haha) and the doctor said thats to be expected. thank you again for responding! :D
