OTC and still not "strong" enough?

Hi All,

I was on Ortho-Tricyclen Lo for 4 months but experienced breakthrough bleeding during most of that time. My doctor switched me to Ortho-Tricyclen, and I've been on this about 6 or 7 months. I'm beginning to have problems with this also now. I usually begin cramping on my 4th day of the 3rd week of active pills and get breakthrough bleeding a day or two later. I'm going to have to call my doctor again, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what she might prescribe for me next. I like to have an idea of meds going into this conversation. Thanks!

I had a similar problem with OTC. I am now on Yasmin and have had no btb or any other side effect. It has a different type of progestin in it, which may be why it is working so much better for me. You might want to consider it. Let us know what you choose.

Thanks for your advice. Two of my friends are actually on Yasmin now, and both love it. I actually asked the nurse about it when I was changing off of OTC-Lo, and her words were, "Yuck." I asked her why she didn't like it, but she really gave me no answer. I'll discuss with my doctor during my next visit. Thanks!

Funny you should mention that because, I had identified Yasmin as being an option, as my Gyn had me on an array of bcp's that had bad side effects (btb, mood swings, headaches and weight gain). Finally, when I felt like giving up I mentioned to her that I'd like to go on either Loestrin or Yasmin (after researching them) and she finally agreed. This is after 2 years of trying different kinds. I wished that I had pushed to try it sooner. She didn't give me a real explaination either at this time, I just figured she knew what she was doing.

Hope that helps.
