quiting the pill

I have been on birth control pill for a little over 20 years straight. I have not had a period the last 3 months. Took a pregnancy test last month, negative. I am considering quiting the pill. Any advice as to what I will experience? I have waited a little long, but would like to get pregnant (at 37!).

Take a look at a recent discussion about coming off the pill http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-bhcontracept&msg=11410.1&ctx=128 Also, if you are ready to TTC you might want to look at the iVillage TTC boards at Parents Place. The list of Parents Place boards is http://www.parentsplace.com/messageboards/ Many of us love being off hormonal contraceptives, I hope you will too! And, I wish you great success in TTC!
Best of luck

I had been on the pill for 20 years, except for 2 pregnancies. I stopped taking the pill Aug of 2003. I have never felt better! Instantly, and I mean instantly, my sex drive sky-rocketed, I had more energy, my mood was good, and I lost weight. My periods have been 31(and that was the first one off the pill, then 25, 26, 28, 26, 26, 27, 26, and this last one was 29 days apart. I usually have about 3 days of spotting and then 3 days of a period. I have more cramping then before, but nothing tylenol or advil wont take care of(and I dont always need it). One month I started spotting on day 20 of my cycle and didnt have my period till day 27 so that was different. My gyn said it could be due to my age, I am 39. I think youll do fine off the pill! Have fun trying to conceive! Remember, your cycle may be a bit irregular so try to be aware of when you ovulate. For me I know because my sex drive is "out of control" and cervical mucus is plentiful. After a few cycles youll know what I mean. Take care and let us know how it goes!

If breastfeeding in public disturbs you, please feel free to put a blanket over your head or go finish your meal in the restroom.
