Does withdrawal even help at all?

I am on the pill, and my fiance and I usually use some kind of other "backup" method such as spermicide, condom, or withdrawal. My question is...does withdrawal even help since sperm can be in the pre-ejaculate? Does this method decrease chances of pregnancy at all? Thanks for any input!

You're right - there's enough sperm in pre-ejaculate to cause pregnancy.

I was reading a pamphlet for an IUD and the stats in the back were surprising.

Apparently, withdrawal is more effective than you would think--83% effective! Of course, that's compared to no contraception at all but the same list showed it was more effective than just using a sponge or spermicide.

So to answer your question, withdrawal, the cheapest contraception outside of abstinance, is effective to an extent. However, 83% isn't good enough for me.

The problem with that statistic is that it implies *perfect* use. That means he has to always have perfect control, & pull out in time to not ejaculate inside you. If you ask me, that is asking a lot of any man, to have perfect control at a moment like that! Besides which, the feeling of completeing the sexual act together is too good to pass up, in my opinion!!!

I think it also depends on the man, and even varies from one time to the next, how much pre-ejaculate he has, and how much sperm is in it.

I agree with you, 83% is no where good enough protection for me, either. If you don't want a baby, a 17% chance of one is way too much!!!
