I voted on this one as well, as I had the para guard removed.

I'm having mine taken out in about 3 weeks after almost 3 years of having the Mirena....I've had problems with cysts and my dr wants to go in and take my IUD out,do a D & C and then if the tests from that tissue comes back OK she'll do a hydro-thermal ablation (hopefully to stop my periods)and tie my tubes and drain the cysts.....Kinda looking forward to being OFF hormones.I've been on some form of birth control since I was 18 (except for a few months when I was without insurance and when I was pregnant)..I'm now 35....

I was very happy with my Paragard for several months, but i always had a tiny bit of worry over potential problems and tampon usage so never fully relaxed with it. I had an incident where I felt that it had shifted and was poking my cervix from the inside and freaked- my gyn said it was perfectly fine but I was so freaked that it was the final straw and he removed it. I would recommend it still and miss being off hormones but I am happy that it is out.

Hi,

Twenty some odd years ago I had a copper 7. I bled continuously and I had horrible cramps and felt like I was going to die. I gave it like 6 months. Yes, some of my partners did feel the string and it was not comfortable. I had it removed and found out later that I am allergic to copper.

A couple of years later I had some sort of loop put in. After a few months I started bleeding at the wrong time--heavy bleeding and I felt strange. The string had dissapeared. I called my GYN and he had me come in that day. He removed the IUD which had lodged itself in the corner of my uterus and turned so the string was inside of me. He also diaggnosed an ectopic pregnancy and I was rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery. It was about the worst experience of my life. I never thought it possible to get pregnant with an IUD, but no one ever told me about ectopics. Anyway it was in one of my fallopian tubes and he removed the pregnancy and repaired the tube. Since then that tube has had a cyst that popped on it's on (ouch!) and has now sort of shrunk--at least that is what the last ultrasound showed.

sorry, long story. I tell women to stay away from them and I would never have another one put in me. My GYN later told me that in his opinion they should be banned.
