I started taking the pill on March 2nd and got my period March 30th. How long should I wait to have sex? Is one complete cycle enough, or should I wait until after the second cycle? I really don't want to get pregant now. Thanks for your advice.

If you started your first package of pills on the first day of your period, theoretically you were proteced right away. If you started within the first seven days (usually Sunday start), you were protected after seven consecutive days of pill taking. This board generally reccommends that you use backup for the whole first package, just for peace of mind.

If you've taken a whole package & know you've taken all of your pills correctly, you're good to go!

thanks for your reply but I forgot to mention something. I'm not sure if it is important though, but I've been really stressed lately and skipped my period for 3 months consecutively. I was put on the pill to help me get it and to help calm me down, so I didn't take it on a Sunday or on the first day of my period. I took the first pill on a Tuesday. My doctor said I could take the pill the same day that I spoke to her on the phone, which was a Tuesday. Is it still okay to have sex?

Hi sambo chick,

It doesn't matter now what day you started. As long as you have taken the first pack correctly and haven't gone more than 7 24-hour days between active pills when beginning a new pack you should be fine. Go for it! Ok?

Good luck
