Hello everyone,

I don't know if I have a reason to be concerned I might be pregnant or not. I'm in my 3rd month of taking Yasmin and I take it faithfully every morning at 7:25. My boyfriend and I had sex without a condom (we are both STD free) on the 12th day of my cycle and he pulled out before ejaculating but I do know that pre-ejaculation does have sperm in it. I have been a little stressed over the last couple of months as my cat was ill and a couple of weeks ago I had to have her put to sleep. Today I took the 5th placebo pill and I still don't have my period and am getting concerned. Last month this same thing happened and I started my period on the 5th day of the placebos and it lasted 2 days into taking the new pack of active pills. Couple of questions ...

1. Should I be worried about pregnancy?

2. Why is my period starting so late into taking the placebo pills?

3. Is it okay to have your period a couple of days into the active pills?

Thank you all in advance!

1. I don't think you need to be worried about pregnancy. You say you've been taking your pill faithfully, so long as you haven't been ill (vomiting or diarhea) within 2 hours of taking a pill, you should be fine. What day of your cycle you had sex should make no difference when you're on the pill, the pill is supposed to stop you from ovulating, so there is no "risky" time of the month. Withdrawl is not a terribly effective means of birth control anyway. It is my opinion that you should just enjoy yourselves, but you have to decide what you're comfortable with.

2. You period is starting that late in your placebo pills because that is how your body responds to this particular combination of hormones. It is obviously taking that long for your body to recognize the drop in hormone levels that induces bleeding.

3. There is nothing harmful about your period lasting into your next active pack of pills.
