timing and the Pill

Hi all -- I'm new to taking the Pill and I didn't get a real clear answer from my doctor on this. I know that you're supposed to take the Pill at the same time every day, but how exact should I be with this? I take it around 9 am every morning, but twice now (not in a row) I've forgotten and not been able to to take it until 11 AM or so. Would this be enough to cause a pregnancy? I haven't gotten my period yet this month (I'm not late, it's usually around the 15th), but I'd like to know if I should stop worrying over this or not.

Thanks!

I take mine every night, any where between 9 and 11. I have forgotten a couple of times until the next morning, and have never had problems.

Hi spectacled, welcome!

This board considers on-time to be +/-2 hours of your regular pill time. Any greater variance and some women begin to experience side effects from hormone fluctuations. It's best to select a time that you can link with an activity that you do every day. Or set the alarm on a watch, or reminder on your cell phone or computer to alert you that it's your pill time. Having irregular pill times is not a good habit to get into.

Good luck

Thanks for the quick responses! I'm a full time student, so 9 am is convenient with my class schedule, and usually not a problem. The difficulty comes when I'm running late and am more worried about getting there on time than taking a small blue pill. The hormone fluctuations I can deal with, it was the pregnancy risk that had me nervous. But I'll sleep easier tonight :)

hey when i first started the pill i also forgot to take it a couple of times. so i timed the alarm on my cell phone (which is always with me) to go off at the same time each day as a reminder. so if you have a cell phone it would be a good idea, otherwise you can set an alarm clock or pager or something. you can also put the pill pack next to your toothbrush so that when you brush your teeth in the morning you'll see it and remember to take it!
