Advil/Tylenol and the pill?

About two weeks ago I took an Advil about a half hour before I took my pill. I know that you're supposed to use backup when you're on medication, would this count? Or am I safe?

Antibiotics warrant backup, Advil or Tylenol do not. The one thing that I have heard (on this board) is about using Advil regularly (like daily) while taking Yasmin. Yasmin is a different progestin that any other pill and there is evidence that it can interact with ibuprofen to cause elevated levels of (I think) potassium in the body. The interaction is NOT one that compromises the effectinveness of your birth control, and it is not an issue if you take an occasional Advil, only if you're using it really regularly.

OK, thanks. Just out of curiousity, what about over the counter meds, like if I was taking a nasal decongestant or something?

It's usually prescription medicines or herbals that warrant back up...I've taken tylenol/advil/OTC pain killers and such w/o using back up--never had any problems....

I found a great drug interaction tool at Eckerd.com. It lists all sorts of dietary suppliments and both rx and OTC drugs. I used it last weekend to double check my athlete's foot creme, and it actually had it in the database! It's a great tool for the paranoid!
