I need your advice! If I'm afraid of taking the pill because of it's side effects,

how effective could the condom be?

You could try a low dose bc pill. not everywomn has side effects. i never had real bad side effects like weight gain, etc. ( i have always been moody, so couldnt tell you if the pill changed that, lol) Talk to your dr about some of the low dose like OTC low or Yasmin. You have to remember that with condoms there is always the chance of it breaking, spoiling the mood, etc,Good Luck.

Hi cosmogirl714, welcome!

Condoms when used with a good 2% N9 spermicide (not the stuff that comes with some condoms) can be very effective but not as effective as hormonal contraceptives and as the other poster said condoms can really ruin a mood. Don't let the posts about side effects scare you off. Most hormonal users either don't have side effects or they are mild and go away in a few cycles. You might want to consider NuvaRing which is a very low dose, low maintenance method. It is a small ring worn in the vagina for 3 weeks and removed for 1 for your period. Most ring users who post here like it. I hope you find something that works well for you.

Good luck
