I wrote earlier about this but...I've been on Cycless BC since May of 2003 and the past two months I've gotten my period a week early and it lasts through the last week of active pills as well as through the placebo pills. I'm not terribly worried, I'm planning on switching brands once I get home (i'm at school right now) BUT, i was wondering, am I still being protected? Would it be a bad idea to have sex while something like this is going on? Just curious.

My advice...call you OB/GYN!

Hi bearulee,

Maintaining your endometrium and ovulation suppression are two different functions, so usually you are still protected from pregnancy even if you are experiencing irregular bleeding. Can you call your Gyn at home and see if s/he will change your pill over the phone and call in the new Rx to your local pharmacy? Let us know how you are doing, ok?

Good luck

Yes, I have called my ob/gyn at home and it turns out she's on maternity leave and won't be back in the office until late May. I mentioned to the receptionist that I was having some problems with the brand I am using and she told me the Dr. probably wouldn't switch it over the phone because I was due in for another visit in May anyways. So I'm a bit out of luck on that...but I only have one or two months until then, so I figured it wasn't a big deal. Thanks for the input!
