Looking at the Ortho Evra full prescribing information I don’t see any mention of insomnia. However, that doesn’t mean the patch isn’t causing yours. You might ask your doc. what her patients experiences have been with the patch. It usually takes three or four three-patch cycles for a user’s body to adjust to the new hormones. If you can’t wait that long to see if a good sleep pattern returns then, at the end of this cycle, you might consider stopping the patch for a month or two or going back to Yasmin to see of your insomnia disappears. If you decide to stop hormones for a while be sure to use an effective non-hormonal method of contraception. Not getting sound sleep can really do a number on you both physically and mentally. I hope you can correct the problem soon. Let us know how you are doing, ok?
I got insomnia with every hormonal birth control I tried (the patch, the ring, and several pills). I could never sleep for more than 2 hours straight. The best alternative for me was a non-hormonal (copper) IUD. It was great. No side effects other than a little extra cramping and bleeding with my period. Plus I never had to think about it. It would've been good for 10 years, but my body expelled it. I had to switch back to fertility awareness method, which I used for 4 years. I got frustrated with FAM because I had to use condoms during my fertile time which was when I wanted sex the most, and then when I was not fertile and didn't need condoms, I totally lost my sex drive. As a last resort, my husband got a vasectomy and now things are great! I know how frustrating it can be to find a birth control method that works for you. Good luck!
