I am on the pill but this has been a strange month..i switched pills in the middle of a pack. well i had actually only taken 3 pills from the old pack and then switched to the new ones. the pharmacist said it was fine but to use backup for the month. so me and my boyfriend had been using condoms. well on monday we had sex and afterwards noticed that the whole tip of the condom was gone and the rest was broken. the next morning it came out of me. now i am worreid about 2 things..the chances of getting pregnant..i don't know how effective the pill is when you did what i did...i have taken abot 12 pills or so of the new ones. and my 2nd worry is what are the dangers of me having had this piece of condom inside of me for a full day and night?

i've had a few friends who have had this happen to them. i would check with your dr or planned parenthood about the risks of having the condom inside of you... i would guess it would be minimal like irritation, but i'm no dr. planned parenthood has a 1800 number on their website. as far as your concerns about pregnancy, i'd go to planned parenthood, or depending on where you live, your pharmacy, and ask about emergency contraception. you have 120 hours to take it, so you should still be within the time window. it can reduce your chances of pregnancy by something like 75%. there are a lot of good resources out there, but i'd start at plannedparenthood.org. (i feel like an info-mercial for planned parenthood!)

Hi codcart,

I don’t think you have anything to worry about in either case. If you have been taking your pills correctly and are 12 pills into the new pack then you should be protected by your new pills. Using condoms during your first cycle on a new pill also provides reassurance if AF changes her schedule and is longer/shorter, lighter/heavier on your new hormones.

As far as the piece of latex from the condom remaining in your vagina for 24 hours, that should give you no problem. Latex diaphragms and cervical caps are routinely worn safely for 24 to 48 hours continuously. Occasionally latex worn in the vagina for more than 48 hours will interact with vaginal secretions and cause an odor but it isn’t harmful and because of the shorter time doesn't apply in your case anyway.

Good luck
