I thought of another question!

Sorry, I thought of another question to ask ya'll. In the sexual relationship I have had, I was on birth control pills, and I also made my partner wear condoms (Not for STD reasons, but for extra pregnancy protection). We were always super careful. So, my question is, how many of you rely solely on pills? I guess I'm just paranoid that I will get pregnant! It just seems like there are SO many things that can compromise the effectiveness of the pill. I guess I would rather be safe than sorry. Also, if you use a combo of pills and some other type of protection, what do you use? I've considered spermicide foam but I don't know how well it works - condoms aren't a whole lot of fun sometimes. Also, in the past when we used condoms with spermicide, they produced a burning sensation for me, so maybe spermicide wont work. Anyway, let me know what you all use, and what you think! Thanks again!

I was on the pill(several brands) for 20 years (except for 2 pregnancies) and did not use a condom along with it. No pregnancies resulted. I do want to add that I was very sure to take my pill at the same time every day and well, I did use backup if I was taking an antibiotic.

Stacey,

I understand your concerns; however, I don't make my BF wear condoms unless I've been taking an antibiotic. I haven't had any problems with the pill (haven't gotten pregnant), and I've been taking it for 6 years.

When I was on hormones I never used condoms unless I was on an antibiotic or had been sick and I never had a pg scare. Now I wear a cervical cap or diaphragm and love how well they work for me.

I ditched the condoms as backup protection about eight months ago and have relied solely on the pill ever since.

I have to admit, I sometimes get nervous about it the way you do, but I've spent some time reading posts on this board and I feel like I've really educated myself regarding how the pill works and how I can make sure it's most effective. I've also talked to my pill-taking friends and the vast majority don't use anything else!

I find that the experience is a lot more enjoyable for everyone involved without the hassle of condoms, so I'm learning to trust the pill! :)

Although I am VERY careful about taking my pill at the same time every day, the majority of the time I still use backup. Sometimes I just have my b/f pull out, which I'm not really sure how effective it is anyway (and it's really gross and messy) but I've been trying to get him to wear condoms. Most of the time he just gripes about how he hates wearing them and how the pill is 99.9% effective and what am I worried about, etc., but I am absolutely terrified of becoming pregnant. I'd have to get an abortion and I don't even want to think about that. So maybe I'm a little over-paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, even if b/f grumbles. It just seems like there's too many little things that can go wrong with taking the pill, like antibiotics, timing, all that stuff. Maybe if I was married I wouldn't worry so much about getting knocked up but I'm single, broke and starting grad school in the fall. Can we say NOT ready for kids?

I'm paranoid too... so paranoid that I worried about that week of sugar pills -- I skipped them this time around (and just started a new pack) but I know I shouldn't do that every week.

Birth control is still effective even during that week? Please tell me it's okay to normally take the birth control pills as they were meant to be and I won't be any more likely to get pregnant.

my fiance and I only use the pill, and have never had any pregnancy scares, but i've been on bc for about 8 years now. No problems though, as long as you take your pill everyday!
