What's Wrong With me??

I am 23 years old. I was on birth control pills (Ortho Novum 777) for only a year and decided to stop taking them. That was in Dec 2002, the whole year of 2003 I only had 2 periods and one was because my gyno gave me some medicine that made me start. But since that I have not had periods. This past Feburary I had one and I was so happy (wierd I know) but once again it's April 2004 and still no period. What is wrong? Is this something that could make me not be able to have children someday. My husband and I are really worried this could effect the chances of me getting pregnant ever... I was in a stressful environment but I have since moved and settled down in a house and I have a normal job so I don't think I am that sressed about anything other than your normal everyday life. If anyone has any advice or suggestions please respond. I am very worried about myself. My yearly pap is next Month. But went lastyear when i was (then) 4 months late my pap was normal and i was simply given some medicine to start and that was it. So what's going on with me? My e-mail is mandyjosh0@aol.com if anyone has any suggestions or advice for me.

Hi Mandy (I'm a Mandy, too!),

I think you should definitely ask about it again at your next annual - very often, giving the injection to 'jump start' a period is often one of the first things they do...your gyno might have assumed no problems after that if you didn't

A thyroid test is one of the first things any doctor would run. If your thyroid is off your periods get really screwed up, amongst other things. Atleast after running that the doc will know if that something that needs taken care of nor not. Are you underweight or overweight? Being underweight can cause problems and being overweight along w/irregular periods, hirsutism, acne are symptoms of PCOS. Two of my friends had the period problem and finally the doc ran thyroid tests and their thyroid was way off. They can give meds for that and you will start to feel like a new person after about 4 to 6 weeks on those. Your doctor should have followed up on you. Very strange.

Hi Mandy,

I can relate to your problem. My periods are very very irregular! Sometimes I will have it like every "normal" human beings, and then I won't have it for several months or even years. When I was 15 or 16 years old my mother got worried and took me to my first gyno.He ran some tests and told me that I wouldn't be able to have kids. =( He then gave me some birth control pills to increase my period. It helped for a little bit,and then it went back to where I didn't have periods.Ever since that news, I never went back to the gyno because I fear that they might tell me the same thing.(I know I know,I should go!!) The last period I've gotten was in August of 2003,and I don't know if it'll be back anytime soon this year.I hope things work out for you.Keep me posted!
