Hi everyone,

My menstrual cycle are very irregular.I didn't have that problem until I was about 15 or 16 years old.Sometimes I won't have my period for months,or even years!I went to the gyno at that time and he told me that I wouldn't be able to conceive. He gave me birth control pills to help start the period, which helped for only a short amount of time. Then it went back to where I wouldn't have my period.I was just wondering if there's a possibility that he could be wrong,or if there's still a way that I could have a baby later. What's wrong with me? Am I really baren? =( Please help!

Hi alyneedshelp,

Oh hon, there is no way that anyone on this board can answer that question. If I were you and interested in ttc I 'd talk to my Gyn and have some tests run. There have been all sorts of advances in reproductive medicine in the last few years. There might be ways you can conceive depending on what your problem is. Please let us know how you are doing, ok?

Good luck

Can they tell you're barren just by "looking" or do they assume it when you've got irregular periods? What kinds of tests do they run? I was under the impression that there really wasn't a way for a doc to know that kind of thing unless you were already having trouble... .

DH and I are waiting a couple more years before we try, but if they can tell in advance that it's going to be difficult/impossible for me, I'd like to know so we can start trying earlier, KWIM?

Hi squeegee19,

We don’t have the expertise to discuss much in the way of fertility problems here. You might do better asking your question on the iVillage Fertility therapies Board http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhfertility or, on one of the iVillage Parents Place In Pursuit of Fertility boards. The list of Parents Place Boards is http://www.parentsplace.com/messageboards/?arrivalSA=1&cobrandRef=0&arrival_freqCap=2 Asking your gyn about what is available would be a good idea too.

Good luck

Did your Doc at the the time tell you WHY you wouldn't be able to concieve? If bc pills helped you for awhile, you should try taking them again, and regularly. That's one thing that they are for, is to make you have a regular period, as well as preventing pregnancy. If your doc didn't give you a reason why, you should still be able to have a baby. I had a friend a few years ago that NEVER got her period. Her doc put her on bcp before she got married, and she's pregnant with her second baby now. Don't believe everything a doc tells you, get a 2nd opinion, or go to a specialist.
