Cyclen and no more condoms!

Hello, all, I'm new here! I just started taking Cyclen today. I've been on it before, but it's been a couple years. I just had a question: My DBF and I have been together for a quite awhile now, and we are getting pretty tired of the condoms. That's one reason I've started on the pill again, because we'd like to stop using the condoms!! We think it will definately increase our sex life. I'd like to know how soon after I start the pill is it safe to stop using the condoms? The reason we use them is to prevent pregnancy, there are no STD worries or anything. We're really looking forward to the freedom of no condoms! Any input would be appreciated, thanks ~Sabrina

If you began your pills on the first day of your period (a first day start) then you are protected immediately. If you began your pills on the first Sunday after your period (a Sunday start) then you are protected after 7 days of correct pill use. This board recommends the use of back-up for the entire first pack of pills while you are learning to take them correctly. That way if you forget a pill or are late or if AF arrives on a different schedule and is of a different consistency that what you are used to you won’t have a freakout. Does that help?
Good luck to you.
