pressing missed pill question

Hello,

I take Mircette birth control pills-- a combined pill. On day seven of my pack I took a pill five hours late and on day eight I took a pill three hours late. Two days later I had unprotected sex.

I spoke to a pharmacist and a nurse, both of whom said that I should be fine-- that I only actually missed one pill (three hours was still within the window) and therefore did not need to use another form of birth control. They suggested that emergency contraception was unnecessary. Since both of them said this, I feel that I should relax and trust them, but I can't seem to!

Only two and a half days have passed since I had unprotected sex, and so I could still take emergency contraception. I would greatly appreciate anyone's prompt thoughts on the matter!

You did the right thing and talked to professionals. I would agree and think you will be ok. If you still feel unsure, you can use backup for the rest of this cycle for peace of mind. (I know you are thinking more about the day of unprotected sex) Remember, missing a pill by just a few hours is better than missing it altogether.

Hi anon1123,

I agree with ilv2cook, you should be ok. If you are having a hard time remembering your pills you might try carrying a watch with an alarm set to your pill-time or set a reminder message on your cell phone or computer. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck

You should be fine. I have taken my pills way later than that before, (like 10-12 hours) and I've never had any pregnancy scares. Relax! You are worrying and stressing yourself out for no reason!
