depression and pill

I started the pill just about a week ago(Nortrel 7/7/7 which is generic Ortho 1/35 I believe). I knew the possible side effects & was hoping I didn't experience them. But I have been feeling depressed and insecure when just a couple weeks ago I was appreciating how happy I am in my life. Can I be feeling the 'possible depression' side effect so soon? About a week ago I heard some awful news about a friend and am wondering if it is just that and not the pills (???). If it is the pills, does your body adjust eventually? I was told that these are low estrogen but if my feelings persist I may stop taking them. Thanks

Whenever you start the pill or change pills, you're supposed to allow 2-4 months for your body to adjust to the new hormones before you make any judgments about whether or not it's the right (not necessarily "the perfect") pill for you. There are scads of things that contribute to depression--bad news (as you noted), the weather, the time of year, other stuff going on in your life, even the food that you eat has an effect on the chemicals in your brain. It may be the pill (which sounds more like a generic for Ortho Novum 7/7/7), or it may not be, you'll probably need to give it more time to decide if the two are related or not.

I know it's hard to do, but try not to overanalyze the situation! It's _really_ hard to do... But with time you may have a better picture of what's going on and then you can make a decision to keep going or change or stop. Hang in there!
