how much do hormones affect emotions?

I've been on the patch for over a year now and for the past few months I have found myself becoming increasingly emotional during my week off. I'll burst into tears over a TV commercial or even a music video. Earlier today I started crying because none of the cute shirts at the store fit me.. The rest of the month I am fine, I am a very stable person with the exception of about a 4 day time span around my period. Tonight I got myself so worked up when my husband went out with his friends that I threw up.(I normally have no problem with him going out with his friends)I'm fighting the urge right now to go out to the bar where they are at and asking him to come home... that is VERY unlike me. Could this be withdrawl from the medicine or something? Is my body trying to tell me that I need to switch methods of BC? What is wrong with me??

I'm not an expert honey but it sounds like your hormones are on a roller coaster...Yes,Hormones can cause "highs and lows" in your emotions....You'd have to talk to your dr to see what bc pills or whatever they reccomend for you....It's normal to have somewhat of a "shift" in emotions around the time of your period...sometimes mine make me act and feel like a "madwoman"!(just ask my dh)Other times I'll cry over nothing....

Hi sirrahsim,

It certainly sounds like it might be estrogen withdrawal. If I were you I'd talk to my doc. about what's going on and see what s/he advises. Let us know how you are doing, ok?

Good luck
