i know this seems kind of silly...but is it normal to have no side effects on a monophasic pill during your 2nd cycle? the 1st cycle of my new pill was terrible, and now my only side effect is horrible mood swings. can someone give me an answer?

Whatever your body is doing is "normal" for your body, at that time! If you've having terrible mood swings, I certainly wouldn't call that "no side effects" though!!!! Mood issues are very real, & can be very difficult to deal with. You should likely wait out the third month, and see if things get any better.

There are plenty of women out there that start birth control pills and have NO adverse side effects. You'll find people who have suffered side effects much more often on a message board such as this one, because who bothers to seek out a message board just so they can write "I love my birth control, it works perfectly for me!"? Don't be worried about a lack of side effects, rejoice that you're not having any!!!

Good Luck with the bad moods, hope they stabilize for you.

Hi sweetlilmegxo,

A great many women have no side effects from oral contraceptives. Any side effects will usually diminish over the course of 3 or 4 packs so it is normal for side effects disappear over time. I hope your mood swings will also disappear in the next several packs. Let us know how you are doing, ok?

Good luck

I have to agree with one of the previous posts, mood swings are certainly a side-effect and can be a nasty one! It's caused me to change BCPs more than once. They are a major pain in the butt! However, if it's something you can live with, I'd stick it out. As Jill suggested, it can take a while for your body to adjust to a new pill, so the "swings" may subside. If that's your only issue and you think you can handle it, I'd hold on for a bit longer before switching.

Just my 2-cents!
