I was on Nordette for about 8-10 monthS, when all of a sudden, I started to have breakthrough bleeding in the last week of my active pills, so my doctor switched me to Yasmin. Yasmin was great for about 8 months, and now I just started having breakthrough bleeding again- the end of the third week of active pills! I'm really careful about taking my pill at the exact same time every day and not forgetting to take a pill ever, but it's happening again. Any ideas why it's happening or how I can get it to stop?! I really don't want to switch pills again, but I can't keep having this btb!!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

It may be that you do need another pill change--this isn't terribly unusual, as our hormones keep changing as we age, and sometimes things need to settle down before things become predictable. Unless you change pills, it's probably not going to stop, one reason this happens is when you need more progestin or less estrogen toward the end of the cycle than what you're getting, but there can be other reasons too.

If you've tried Nordette and Yasmin, you might ask your doctor if s/he thinks a pill with less estrogen would help. Sometimes this works. Another pill that is supposed to be good for breakthrough bleeding is LoOvral, it's very similar to Nordette, but the progestin is better able (in theory) to control the bleeding. Your doctor I'm sure has a lot of experience doing pill changes for this reason, so that's going to be a good place to start.

Good luck!
