I am one of the apparent many getting off of seasonale. I am in the 6th week, and have been BLEEDING (not spotting like they implied in the pamphlet) for 2 weeks. My question is....

My dr gave me new pills to start, (Zovia 1/35E 28 day pills, apparently generic for ortho novum and several others) and told me AT FIRST, that i can't start them until i finish the seasonale, when i told him that was another 6 weeks, he said to start the new pills in 2 1/2 weeks (exactly 8 weeks on seasonale). Is this true? do i have to wait ANOTHER 6 weeks or another 2 1/2 weeks to start the new pills? Since i'm already bleeding can't i just start the new ones on say, sunday? i'm confused... HELP!!!!

Thanks in advance ladies.....

Hi hunternme, welcome!

You might want to ask your doc what his rational was for wanting you to wait another 2 ½ weeks. Perhaps he thinks you might stop bleeding by then. If you really want to get off Seasonale then what I’d do is to begin the new pills, Zovia, on the day (any day) you want to use as your start day. I would take my last Seasonale pill on the day before you want to begin Zovia. You should be protected by the hormones in your pills during a switch but many women use back-up for the first cycle on their new pill just for peace of mind. I hope Zovia works better than Seasonale for you. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck
