triphasic vs monophasic

I was on Ortho Tricyclen Lo for about 4 months but had severe BTB, so my doctor changed me over to Ortho Tricyclen. I have been on this for 7 months, but for the past 2 or 3 months have been getting BTB again. I get cramps during my third week of active pills and then begin to bleed while still on active pills. The bleeding is one thing, but the cramps are uncomfortable and last for entire days until I begin my placebo pills. It's terrible. Anyway, I want to get my pills changed again. Part of me feels that logically monophasic pills might be what would work for me, but isn't it more proven that the triphasic pills are more likely to prevent BTB? I just feel like my body gets "confused" with the variations in hormone levels. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi Deb:

I'm not sure about the BTB as I've never had any problem wiht that (knock on wood), but I also was on Ortho Tricylen and OTC Lo and my doctor switched me to a monophasic due to nasty mood swings.

The monophasic has been heavenly for my mood levels compared to the triphasics.

So although I don't know about the btb, a monophasic may help with mood stabilization. But then again we are all different so you never really know for sure until you try it.

Hope that helps!

I saw your question below about the Ortho Tri Cyclen. I was on it but switched due to mood swings and low sex drive. I now take necon .5 and it works SO much better! I also took Ovcon 35, which also worked really well. I've found that I respond better to the monophasic pills.

BTB can be a problem on any pill, it's a combination of trial and error and letting your body adjust.
