i have been on the IUD for almost a year now and love it. other than a few heavy periods i havent had any signifigant problems until now (horror music) my period was due on the 21 and i am never more than a few days late. well it is now the 28 and still no period. i took a HPT test the other night and it came out neg. i am taking another Thurs morn if still not here. my question is if this method fails me what would you suggest for the future here is my breif history
cant use BCP been on more kinds than i can remember and they led to things like 3 month long peroids, blackouts, nausea (i am talking barf up everything for weeks and loose a lot of weight) migranes ect.
Depo very ill, couldnt keep food down , fainted, vision problems, and when they took me off i bled for 6 or 7 mos
spermicide gives me hives in bad places so it knocks out things like a diaphram or cercical cap
condoms i know they work but i have one baby from them and get nervous at the thought
just wonderibg if there was anything else out there that i havent considered or if i am destined to have 100 children if this one fails me

If I remember correctly, I thought some posters said that after awhile with an IUD, your periods might stop altogether. Any IUD users here to back this up?

Just because you have always been on-time in the past, it does not necessarily mean that you are pregnant because your period is late. Even women who are very regular, like clockwork, can occasionally experience an irregular or skipped period. Just because you never have does not mean that you won't. You may want to start tracking your fertility signs. It won't help you this time, but it can help you know when you ovulate and when to expect your period (2 weeks after ovulation). It will also help in the future, because if you do not ovulate you may experience delayed or irregular bleeding. Plus, if the IUD doesn't work out, you can alway rely on Fertility Awareness Method for birth control. I used it for 4 years before my husband got a vasectomy. I found it frustrating, as you need to either abstain or use a method like condoms during the fertile time of the month. But it worked well, and I always knew when to expect my period. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler is a good source of information on FAM. Good luck!
