reasons for not having periods???

Ok. I had been on the pill for 20+ years until April 5 this year when I stopped taking it. I had not had a period the last 3 months. Took a home preg. test and DR blood test, both negative. Now it is Thursday of the week I should have started my period and it looks like I am going on the 4th month without a period.

What can cause this? I did take another home preg. test last week, just because I've been eating a lot, gaining alot, and moody! It was negative too.

It's not that I really "want" to have a period, but I'm getting a little worried as to why I'm not having them now!

Should I go to my DR? Could this be a bad medical condition?

I was taking a mexican birth control pill for 6+ months, then a generic form of ortho novum for 3 months, then Yasmin the last month (if that could have anything to do with it?). Oh, I also quit smoking February 16 using Wellbutrin, which I quit taking last week.

Any advice???

well, smoking decreases the effectiveness of estrogen in your body, and since you quit you may be using more of the estrogen in your pills, which your body's not really used to. this might stabilize your uterine lining enough that it stops shedding.

also, i noticed that you said you've been on the pill for 20+ years. How old are you? If you're over 35, there's a solid chance this is menopause. sometimes menopause takes a long time to fully set in, with periods simply coming less frequently over the course of 10 or even 15 years (my mother has been working her way into menopause for about 15 years now, and still gets one or two periods a year). you might want to talk with your doctor about that possibility.

Hi rmfilly, welcome back!

If I were you I'd have a doc check me out. It may only be your switcing between "a mexican birth control pill for 6+ months, then a generic form of ortho novum for 3 months, then Yasmin the last month" since it can take 3 or more cycles on a pill for your body to become accustomed to them. Also recently stopping smoking and taking Wellbutrin has removed a lot of substances from your body. Good for you, stopping smoking! See what your doc says about AF being a no-show. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Yes, I'm 37 yrs old and have been afraid it might be early menopause. Of course, I've recently decided I would like to have a baby. I guess I will have to go to doctor.

Your body may just need a "kick start" to get your periods going again. They can give you something to get it going. I really wouldnt be concerned that it is menopause. True menopause usually happens about age 50; though you can show early signs now, but I wouldnt rule out that you couldnt get pregnant. Finding out when your mother or sisters started menopause can give you an idea when you will(its a very hereditary thing!) You obviously arent ovulating if you arent haing a period. But meds can get your body back on track. Check with your dr and let us know how it goes.

Josie, Thank you for some hope! I will try to get an appointment for next week. I don't really miss the bleeding, but you make a good point that that means I'm not ovulating!
