I have recently started the pill Tri vora (ortho Tri generic) 28 day. I started to spot even though my period is 2 days away... this is my first pack. I read that women can spot, but how normal is that really? I have used back up protection every time during this pack, but I still worry I could somehow get pregnant. Could spotting during the last week of the first pack be a sign of pregnancy, or am I just over reacting?

Hi sapenn1, welcome!

Spotting during the first few cycles on a new pill is very common. It usually takes 2 to 4 cycles for your body to become adjusted to the hormones from your pills. It's good that you are using back-up for the first cycle as your period may be on a different schedule and of different consistency than when you were cycling on your natural hormones. Using back-up should relieve your mind if AF is late or different. If you have been taking your pills correctly and using back-up you should be very safe.

Good luck to you.

Spotting is common, particularly in the third week, when you change pills, it's happened to me too! And I think, just for the record, if you look at your pack, it's probably not three seven-day phases, right? More like 5, 6, and 10 days? I'm pretty sure Trivora is another generic for Triphasil, as the Ortho Tri generics have only been available very recently--either way, it's a good pill for a lot of women!

Good luck--in my case, I haven't had to deal with spotting after the first month...
