An update on my Mirena experience

I just wanted to post an update for anyone looking for info on the Mirena IUD. I decided to go with an IUD after my 2nd child and debated the copperT or Mirena. It was a difficult decision because I already had heavy periods and I didn't want to make it worse with the copperT. On the other hand, hormones in BCPs give me headaches and I was worried even the low dose of hormones in Mirena might do the same. I finally decided on the Mirena since there was such a small dose of hormones.

The visit to have it inserted was no big deal. It just felt like a slightly aggreessive pap smear. For the first couple of months I had spotting every day and then a regular period. It's now 6 months later & I'm pretty much back to normal. My periods are lighter than before, but I do have a few days of spotting right berfore they start. I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Thanks for the report Jenn - glad to hear your insertion was relatively pain-free!

It's good to hear that it was not a painful insertion for you. I'm also considering an IUD. I've had a cervical biopsy done in the past, and I didn't think it was very painful at all, just a little crampy. The pap test doesn't bother me at all. I've also had one child, so I'm thinking the experience of having an IUD inserted won't be all that bad.

I have had the Mirena IUD for almost a year now and I love it. My periods are so light now. Just like the doctor said they would be. I don't notice any mood swings either because of the lose dose of hormones. I am definitely going to get another one after we have children! I love the fact that I don't need to think about birth control anymore either.
