NuvaRing... oops

So.. a while back it was my bf's idea that I go on bc. We both didn't care for condoms too much, but being that he's 21 and I'm 20... having a baby is out of the question. So looked around a lil bit and decided against any kind of pill.. I don't have a good enough memory to take it everyday let alone around the same time everyday. It was either the patch or the ring.. needless to say I didn't really want a square patch on me all the time so I chose the ring. I've been using it since January w/ all seeming to go pretty well. Not too many side effects. Just the other day I went over to bf's house and as he walks in the room he was like 'I thing I might have a small problem w/ ur ring.' I was kinda puzzled and wasn't sure what he was talking about at first. So he showed me what he was talking about. On the left (almost underside) of his penis was a red area.. kinda like a blistery (altho not water filled) type red sore. It was about the size of 1/2 a dime or a lil bigger. I felt bad at first and asked if that was the first time it happened. He said he noticed little almost scratch type areas kinda like that before but nothing quite so big. I thought about it for a second and joked that he's probably glad it's my ring free week then. He was like yeah, that way I can recover. I did tell him that I can take it out for a couple hours at a time and he said that he thinks we might be doing that from now on.. unless we forget or can't for somet reason.

Just thought I'd let you know, maybe see if any of you had had that problem. I do feel bad about it, but he noticed it before and never said a thing... Oops!! 0:-)

I was on nuvaring for about 2 months and I'm now on a pill (despite the fact that, like you, I was set against taking any kind of pill). Anyways. my bf could definitely feel it. Not the first time, but everytime after that (with or without a condom). Anyways. He said he didn't mind, but sometimes *I* could feel that he felt it. I felt kind of bad. Anyways, for reasons unrelated to that I went off the ring and am now taking cyclessa... I told him about the pending switch and his quote was "Ok... I didn't like the ring..." and finally admitted it was a bit weird feeling for him (which very well could mean "uncomfortable" and "painful" in guyspeak).

Just my experiences. :-) Good luck hon!

I hadn't heard that before! I've been using the ring for almost a year and a half, and we've never had any trouble with it or needed to take it out for intercourse. One thing though, and I'm not bringing this up to start trouble or anything, but if he hasn't had that sore checked out by a doctor he may want to. It's not something that he'd want to get infected, and if his STD tests aren't up to date it couldn't hurt to have those done too (yours too!). Other than taking it out, which you can do, is there enough lube?

We haven't had that problem either.... I have been using the ring for over a yr also... I wonder if the ring just irrated his sore and didn't cause it.

Our STD tests are up to date and we're both STD free. He hasn't been to the doc yet, but I had mentioned it to him about going. Just so it doesn't get infected. Plenty of lube and if not we break out the KY. Could have been something w/ the position we were in.. or maybe the position the ring was in... just could have rubbed a little to much in that spot?.. He had mentioned before that depending on what positions we were in he either couldn't feel it or he could. Haven't figured it out yet, but it's been a couple days and it's clearing up.. We'll just have to see what happens.
