Can I get pregnant???

DH and I use condom as birth control method. I am freaking out quite a bit today as after intercourse we noticed/smelled semen on the shaft/testicle area (sorry if too graphic). The condom was still in tact and it did not break, looks like like a small amount seeped through the bottom. At this point we have no desire for additional children. My first day of my last period was on 04/15 (they are usually around the same time every month give or take a day or two), wondering what are the chances of this causing pregnancy. Also, I believe I was ovulating from 4/26-4/29 (I had the typical pelvic pain, and jelly like discharge). I know of the Emergency pill, however, am not very comfortable taking it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It's really impossible to give you a statistic as to how likely it might be... It wouldn't seem likely though, considering that the condom was still intact and that you may have been 5 days past ovulation (I think an egg is only viable for 48 hours?).

As far as emergency contraception goes, if you've already ovulated and were later than you think, I'm not sure if preventing fertilization would still be possible (by thickening mucous to slow down sperm), but it may serve to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. Some people don't agree with that, and that's fine. But if an egg has already implanted in the uterus, emergency contraception will not remove it--according to medical terminology, emergency contraception does not cause an abortion (according to some folks, though, preventing implantation is the same thing).

It's up to you what to decide, but bear in mind that EC is more effective the earlier it is taken. Taking EC is the only action to decide on, so at least there's only one choice to make! Otherwise it's a waiting game, but only for about another week, right? If it were me, though, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck! I hope everything goes okay!
