ok, i have a problem and i need to know what's going on and what i should do.... here's the backgroud info... i'm on the pill and i'm a virgin. however... on valentines day my bf and i got very close to having sex. not to be graphic, but his penis was touching my vagina. he didn't cum at that time, but i know about the whole precum thing. my period after this was really light. then my two periods after that were more normal. my period ended last week and today i just had some "spotting" i guess you would call it. i forgot to take the pill saturday and doubled up sunday night (i usually take in the morning) i know i'm probably just paranoid, but is there any possible chance i could be pregnant? i was going to take a pg test, but for some reason i heard that bcpills make the test say positive even when it's not..? is that true? ugh, i'm so confused... what's going on?

thanks....

Hi Laura, welcome!

You have nothing to fear from your encounter on Valentines Day. If you have had 3 periods since then you are fine. If you are taking your pills correctly they are 98-99% effective.

Which pill was it that you forgot to take? It is very important that you go no more than 7 24-hour days between the last active pill of your previous pack and the first active pill of your new pack to remain protected. If you miss a pill or go more than 7 days between actives during your placebo week you should use back-up for the next 7 days of correct pill use. Skipping or being late with a pill can cause irregular bleeding in some women so that may have caused your spotting.

Being on hormonal contraceptives has no effect on the accuracy of a HPT. The test measures the amount of a pregnancy hormone HCG in your urine and the estrogen and progesterone in your pills can not affect that. I think you are quite safe sweetie. Thanks for stopping by.

The best to you
