Irregular Period on pill?

I am 28 years old and have been on the pill (ortho-cyclen, mostly) for 8 years. I just recently started getting my period only every other month. I still get the symptoms, just no bleeding. I have an appt with my dr in a few weeks but I am very curious about this. Is this totally abnormal?

Of course it isn't "normal," but when a patient is on the pill for an extended period of time, this can happen. You probably need a dose adjustment in your pills.

Hi mizcookie14, Welcome!

Our bodies change as we age so what you are experiencing with Ortho-Cyclen may now be ‘normal’ for you on that dose and combination of hormones. You might be ready for a pill change. Let us know what your doc says, ok?

Good luck

It does happen, from the women we've talked to here about it, several of their doctors weren't concerned about the lack of periods so long as they weren't pregnant. It's not *bad* to miss periods if you're on the pill, necessarily, that would mean that you're not developing enough endometrium during the month to actually become unstable and break down when it's not being supplied with hormones. But if you're more comfortable with monthly periods, then you and your doctor might be able to figure out another pill that you could try.

Good luck!
