Well, it's not an automatic shutoff! ;) Some women's periods stop when they normally would, some sooner, and some women have some bleeding for several weeks into either the patch or a new pack of pills (the mechanism is the same). It's quite an adjustment for your body, sometimes a lot of patience is needed for the first couple of months before things settle down. Breakthrough bleeding or spotting is most common in the first month and typically decreases the second and third months, so don't panic if things don't seem to be going the way you think they should at first!

We've had a variety of patch users here. Some women love it and think it's great, some women aren't big fans of it, just like any other method of contraception. Hopefully, though, it's right for you, because that's all that really matters! We all respond to hormones differently, so what works for me may not work for you and vice versa.

Good luck with the patch!

I can't remember the exact length, but I do remember that it initially lasted as long as it did when I wasn't on any type of birth control - about 7 days.

After being on the patch for a while though (with a Sunday patch change day), I get my period on the Wednesday after removing the patch, and it stops after I've applied my new patch the following Sunday.

I hope that helps.
