I just started the patch last saturday the first day of my period. I had a few problems the first 2 days but since then i can't even tell anything is different. I am so worried that if I start having sex with no condom even being on the patch i am going to be having baby number 3 and i don't want that at all. What do u guys think of the patch? and is it safe to put it on the back of your shoulder? ty

The patch is an effective method of birth control, as much or more so than the pill (since you don't have to worry as much about missed/late pills). The prescribing information lists the back of the shoulder as a location for placing your patch, so that should be fine.

if you're really worried about being protected, use a condom or some other backup method of birth control for the first month or two, until you get more confident with the patch.

just because you're not having bad side effects doesn't mean it's not working! it just means that you're adjusting well to your new hormones. you may still encounter new side effects over the next few months, too.

Oh, and there are quite a few patch users on these boards. Many of them suggest changing the site of patch placement with each new patch, to keep the skin from becoming irritated. Also, wearing it diagonally (like a diamond instead of a square) keeps it from sticking to your clothing and getting pulled off your skin.

Hi camandmacsmom2002, Welcome!

You have read the patient information leaflet that came with your patches, right? The patch is effective if you put it anywhere the patient instructions say you can. Remember too that you should use back-up for the first 7 days you are no the patch regardless of whether you were a first day or Sunday start.

Good luck
