Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure the best message board to post this question on, but figured this would be the best one....

So I haven't had a full period since August 2003 (a few times I've spotted). I have been on birth control pills for 11 years, always with a very normal (3 day) period, until last August. I was in a car accident in August that did cause me quite a bit of stress, and some neck injuries. I went to my OBGYN, and she told me that my lack of period had nothing to do with the accident... that some women when taking the pill, don't have periods. What confused me was that why would in happen the same time of my accident. She said they had no corrilation with each other, and to just consider myself lucky.

Does anyone have any information about not having your period while on the pill? Just seems so weird that it decided to stop, 11 years after I started taking it (same dosage).

My stress has completely subsided, and all injuries are well healed... but still no period.

Am I just lucky, or do you think something else is going on?

Btw, I'm not pregnant (tested), and I still get cramps every month.

Thanks for taking the time....

As we get older it's perfectly normal for our own hormone production to change, and for our bodies to respond differently to our pills. Since you've been on the pill so long, your body might just not respond to your inactive week the way it used to. The cramping suggests some reaction, but maybe the withdrawal just isn't drastic enough to cause your uterine lining to shed significantly.

If you're really worried and would rather have the peace of mind that comes from a monthly period, you should talk to your doctor about switching to a different pill formulation. the first few months will likely be a major adjustment for your body, but you should go back to a monthly period if you switch to a different formulation.
