i just started OTC lo monday morning ( may 17th, 2004) i just had a baby April 12th-- I have never been on any kind of BCP at all-- been on depo ( yuck) and Lunelle ( loved it)
Ive been taking my pills every morning within 30 minutes of the day befores-- so basically around the same time everyday-- my question-- i havent gotten my first AF back from after delivering my daughter-- my after birth bleeding ( lochia) has stopped since I was 2 weeks post partum-- When am i protected and it wilbe safe to have sex again? The insert doesnt cover this occasion-- Thanks!

What we usually recommend is that women use a backup form of birth control for the first pack of pills for two reasons. One reason is that you won't know when during the inactive week to expect your period to arrive--usually it's not with the first pill. So while you're waiting for your period, if you're like many of the rest of us, you're wondering if you're in that 1% for whom the pill doesn't work and you start to panic... If you've been using backup, you know you can't be pregnant and the wait is easier. The following month you'll have an idea of what to expect. The other reason we recommend a month of backup is because while you're getting used to taking the pill, especially when you've got a new baby, it's easy to forget to take your pill on time. If you're using backup, there are no consequences for taking a pill late or missing one or two, but if you're not using backup, there could be trouble.
Make sense? Feel free to post back if you've got any other questions!
