Breakthrough Bleeding on Pill

Hello everyone! I'm 25 and have been on birth control pills for 10 years now. I started when I was only 15. A couple years ago I started getting breakthrough bleeding while taking the pill on time everyday. It wasn't bad enough to do anything about back then. But now.. I'm basically having 2 periods a month, with breakthrough bleeding in between. I'm lucky if there's a week out of the month there's no spotting at all. My question is if any of you have known someone that this has happend to? If it's normal? My OBGYN has tried different pills, tried giving me extra estrogen for 3 cycles.. and still it's happening. I'm concidering going off the pill. Do you think that would help at all? I'm also very bloated all the time (since this started). Something isn't right. I thought I might have endrometriosis.. but my cramps aren't that bad. I'm sooo confused and would love some advice from anyone! I feel like nothing has helped. Thanks so much!

I had whacky bleeding on the pill. Some months were worse than others, but I remember one month I think there were only about 5 days I didn't at least spot!!!

I went off the pill last June, & things have been great. My periods are short & far apart.

However, if you don't have a reliable form of birth control lined up, this may not be the answer!!!!! (My husband had a vasectomy)

Thanks so much for the responce! I've been waiting on the site for like an hour to get one. I'm feeling so confused about what to do. Thanks for your reply!! It's good to know. Yeah.. I'm only 25 and do not want children till about 30-ish. So I'm still not sure what the right answer is. God.. I wish they made some sort of procedure for men to get that could be reversed when you decide to have kids! hehe! I would have my husband do that in a second. Sheesh I'm sure he would be more than willing, if it would mean normal sex for us again! Thanks again for the reply!

You didn't mention what pill you are on now or have been on, that might help to give suggestions about what you might try. And of course you have spoken to your Gyn too right? Although, I had btb for years and had to figure it out on my own.

Give us some more info!!!

Yes.. I can't believe I forgot that! Sorry! I've been on a range of pills througout the years. Currently I'm on Levlen 28. It seemed to work the first few months I was on it.. but it's been quite some time.. and now, it's not working on its own. I've also tried orthy ti-cyclen.. and the tri phasil pills dont seem to work either. My GYN also has me on estrogen pills 2 times a day for 3 cycles. Yeah, if you know a good pill that is good for bb.. i would love to hear suggestions! Thanks a lot!

You might want to try Yasmin (it has a different type of progestin, I'm taking that and it has been great for me) or maybe loestrin?

Let us know what happens!

Thanks for your respnce. Were you having breakthrough bleeding then Yasmin worked for you? It was my understanding.. that the lower the estrogen, the higher chance of BB?? Thanks for the suggestion!! Let me know if you can about the Yasmin, and if you were having BB too, and it helped. Thanks a lot!

Yes, I had a terrible time with btb on all the pills that I was on (mircette, ovocon, desogen and OTC. When I got on Yasmin the btb and all the other symptoms stoped. Yasmin might be low in estrogen (although I'm not sure that it is really low) but the difference is the progestin in it. None of the other pills have that and I think that is what regulates it all for me.

Good luck :)
