Howdy there! I just started birth control 4 days ago- and already boy am I feeling the affects of it! :( Major major weight gain and bloating- we're talking about my loose pants that fit perfect/slightly baggy before are now tight, and I swear my face even looks fatter. :( Please tell me girls, does this go away over time? The reason I had to start taking this was because i started to have really irregular excessive bleeding a couple months ago that already led to me overeating (plus I was feeling so fatigued all the time because i was so anemic all i'd do is sit around and eat). I was getting my period EVERY OTHER WEEK for a week! Already in the last four days I have been eating half of what i was during my overeating stage, but hell i haven't gotten any fitter- just fatter! I really do want to cry here :,) Please let me know if this will at least go back to (semi) normal! waaaaaaaa! Christina

Hi there!

I am new to the pill too, on my second month. I was put on it for irregular menses. Anyway, I am here to tell you that yes, the bloating etc does go away, although I have heard it can take up to 3 months. The only thing I experienced was a headache, that lasted for 2 weeks midway through my first pack. Nothing else though. And that has since gone away. If your bloating etc. lasts well into your second month, I would mention it to your dr. just be reassured. :)

Whoa, hold up there! ;) If you've been on the pill four days and this is happening, this has to be only water, you can't put on regular weight that fast--it takes 3500 calories to gain or lose a pound by eating. Granted, some women's metabolisms will change due to the pill, but that isn't generally the case.

Try to hang in there--drink plenty of water (I know it sounds like the wrong way to go, but it's not), watch your sodium intake, and hopefully it improves with time, it usually does! And if it doesn't, don't feel like you have to bail on the pill altogether, there are a variety of different formulations and a different one might suit you better, you just have to give this pill enough time (usually 2-4 months) to make sure it is or isn't the right pill for you.

Good luck!
