ok Im pretty scared- I am on the birth control pill- and have taken it religiously except for the other day when I missed a pill- so I made it up the next day (same time as usual) However the next night my bf finished inside me- (by accident) I immediatly went to the restroom, however I know at that point the damage is done- What are my chances of getting pregnant- Does the fact taht I missed that day completely make the birth control uneffective? Or is 99% chance that I won't just lowered? help.... TIA

Hi there.

When you say you made up for it the next day, do you mean that you took the missed pill as soon as you remembered it, and then took the next one on schedule? That's what my doc told me. Also, you can call planned parenthood and ask about emergency contraception, that is, if you don't have moral reservations about it. I think you are okay.

Good luck.

Hi skeehn2000, welcome!

Which pill was it you missed? The first and last active pills are very important as they determine the limits of your hormone free week and you should absolutely NOT go more than 7 24-hour days between active pills in order to retain your protection. If you missed a pill somewhere else in the pack you should be ok. If you missed the first active pill use back-up for at least 7 days. The FDA is now recommending that back-up be used for 7 days after missing only one pill but the instructions for one missed pill in previous years was that no back-up was necessary. There some, but very little, additional risk. I think you will be fine.

Good luck.

What pill are you on? Most women who post here are on combined (estrogen/progestin) pills. If you are breastfeeding and on a progestin only pill then the requirements for taking it correctly are more stringent. If your schedule is hectic and you need help with remembering to take your pill on time you can set the alarm on a clock or watch or a reminder on your cell phone or computer to remind you at pill time.

Good luck

Yes, Ortho-Cyclin is a monophasic (21 active pills all of the same strength) estrogen/progestin pill. You should be ok.
